The Lake Travis school board tonight accepted the resignation of
Superintendent Rocky Kirk in a special called school board meeting.
Kirk, who was hired by the district in 2002, cited “personal reasons” for the resignation but did not attend the meeting.
District officials said they could not expand on the reasons
prompting the resignation but said Kirk has been on personal leave from
the district for the past couple of weeks.
“He’s resigning for personal reasons and that’s all I am at liberty to say,” said Jason Buddin, school board president.
An interim superintendent has not been named.
The school board will likely appoint an interim superintendent at another special called meeting for Monday.
In a statement released by the district, Kirk thanked the school
board and the community for their support during his nine-year-tenure.
“LTISD has much to be proud of, and I know in my heart that this
district will only continue to prosper,” Kirk said in the statement.
Buddin called Kirk an “incredible leader” and said accepting Kirk’s resignation is “difficult.”
“We’re saddened to see Dr. Kirk leave,” Buddin said. “He has done a lot of great things for the district.”
Kirk had received positive performance reviews in the past, Buddin said. His salary is approximately $273,000.
“We wish him the very best in his future, whatever that may be,” Buddin said.
The 6,974-student district is rated exemplary, the highest rating doled out by the state.
