Robert E. Lee and Whitehouse have battled each other numerous times this summer.

If each team wins their first game today, the Red Raiders and Wildcats will meet again in the consolation bracket of the Fox Sports Net 7-on-7 State Football Tournament at Texas A&M's Penberthy Fields.

Lee is up against Fort Bend Bush in its opening round game of the single-elimination tournament with Whitehouse taking on Vista Ridge. Both games are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. today at Penberthy. The winners of those two games face off in the second round at 10 a.m.

The teams arrived at the consolation bracket due to both finishing third in their pool Friday. Whitehouse was a hard-luck finisher as the Wildcats were third despite going 2-1 in their three games.

Whitehouse blistered Houston Cy Fair (41-28) and took care of Austin Anderson (34-19) in its second game. But in its third contest against Plano East, the Wildcats fell short, 41-34. Since Cy Fair also beat Plano East and all three beat Anderson, it left three teams with 2-1 records.

Whitehouse was the odd team out because of total points.

"We learned a hard lesson," said Whitehouse coach Chris Conder. "We kind of let up on Austin Anderson and we really should have tried to score more points on them.

"Our strategy was to be rested for the last game and all we had to do was win that one. I think the boys are disappointed because they felt they could've and should've beat Plano East and they took them too lightly."

Lee was done in at the end twice in its pool games as both Arlington Bowie (47-45) and Alamo Heights (32-27) scored the game-winning touchdown in the closing seconds. The Red Raiders started the day with a win over Pearland (40-34), but it wasn't enough.

"We were in there with four teams and we were real, real close," said Lee coach Randy Womble. "Against Alamo Heights, we one had the ball three times in the first half. They are slow and methodical and just used up a lot of clock. Against Bowie, we led by 13 at the start of the second half and they came back.

"We just need to run the table in that consolation bracket (Saturday)."

Lee's season-opening opponent Lufkin went 3-0 in its pool play games and is matched up against Coppell at 9 a.m. today in the Championship Bracket.
