Tom Mason, general manager of the Lower Colorado River Authority for
more than three years, announced his resignation, effective July 1.
Mason shared the news with the organization's board of directors
during a meeting June 7. He said his only plans for now are "nothing but
rest for the next three or four months.”
Board Chair Tim Timmerman said the June 15 meeting is the soonest a
replacement could be named. He praised Mason, an environmental attorney,
for his work with the water and electric utility since he was hired in
1987.
“Tom Mason has managed LCRA in a time of great change,” Timmerman
said in a statement. “He has helped the organization refocus on its core
business and has made it more transparent. I join the entire LCRA Board
in expressing our gratitude for his leadership.”
After replacing former general manager Joe Beal in 2007, Mason
pushed for improved transparency, drawing attention from State
Comptroller Susan Combs and winning a gold certification.
Mason also worked to develop a Water Supply Resource Plan and helped
to update the organization's Water Management Plan. He also worked with
property owners and agencies to establish transmission lines that will
bring wind-generated energy from West Texas to the rest of the state.
“Every employee should be very proud of the work that LCRA has done
to improve the quality of life of the people of Texas,” Mason said in a
statement.
