Good weather and a lake level that's not as low as in some years past will likely make for a busy weekend on Lake Travis, officials said.

With three of 11 boat ramps on Lake Travis open, officials said boaters should plan ahead. But the shuttered boat ramps will not likely deter the large crowds expected to hit the water in celebration of Memorial Day, officials said.
"There should be plenty of ways for people who want to enjoy the lake to enjoy the lake," Lower Colorado River Authority spokeswoman Clara Tuma said. "Businesses are open, the marinas are open. There's a lot of water out there."
Officials said they expected ramps at Jones Brothers Park , Mansfield Dam and Sandy Creek to remain open through the weekend, providing boaters access to a lake that is at 652 feet above mean sea level, about 20 feet lower than the average for May.
Having three boat ramps open is a much better situation than the single ramp that was open in 2009, Tuma said.
Boaters should be aware, though, that hazards exist with the lower lake levels, such as islands that have popped up in the past few weeks in some portions of the lake.
Tuma said the lake is about 28 feet lower than it was last year on Memorial Day weekend, when all of the boat ramps were open.
The first ramps were closed a couple of months ago as the lake fell bellow the level necessary to keep them open, said Dan Chapman, Travis County chief park ranger.
Chapman reminded visitors that the use of charcoal is temporarily banned at county parks and advised people that if they choose to drink alcohol, they should drink responsibly.
Those heading out to the Lake Travis should expect to be greeted with mostly sunny skies, highs in the mid-90s through the weekend and lows in the mid-70s, LCRA meteorologist Bob Rose said.
"This should be a great weekend over all, very summer-like," he said.
