Junior wide receiver Cayleb Jones has been invited to play in the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and he was recognized Monday with an on-campus ceremony .
Jones said he was "pretty honored" to be a part of the annual all-star high school game, although his high school coach said Jones may not play in the contest.
Austin High coach L.D. Williams said Jones had previously committed to play in the annual Under Armour All-America Game.
St. Andrew's quarterback Preston Dewey also has committed to the Under Armour game, and several Central Texas standouts — including Rockdale offensive lineman Le'Raven Clark and former Lake Travis quarterback Garrett Gilbert — have participated in the Florida-based showcase over the past few years.
The 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 7 in San Antonio. A date and location has not been set for the 2012 Under Armour game, but event organizers expect it to be played during the first week of January. The 2011 Under Armour All-America Football Game was played on Jan. 5 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Jones, who has committed to the University of Texas, is a two-time All-Central Texas first-team honoree. Over his two-year varsity career, the 6-foot-3-inch Jones has caught 167 passes, and he made 76 receptions for 1,000 yards last season despite missing parts of four games because of injuries.
