SPICEWOOD (KXAN) - A beloved Lake Travis High School senior died on Saturday in a skateboarding accident in Southwest Travis County.
Trevor Searle, 18, was set to graduate in May and had already been accepted to Utah State University. On Monday, dozens of friends and classmates gathered at a memorial near the site of the accident on Cypress Ranch Boulevard.
"Trevor was a very special person- by far, one of the nicest, kindest people I have ever met," said good friend Ash Holloway.
Travis County investigators said Searle was holding on to a truck and riding his skateboard when something caused him to lose his balance and fall to the ground. He was airlifted to UMC Brackenridge where he died.
"He was quite the daredevil," said Holloway. "He did all this stuff all the time, he snowboarded, bmx, all this stuff and when I heard this I just couldn't believe it because that was not Trevor- that was not supposed to happen."
Videos posted on Searle's facebook page show him riding his skateboard down several steep hills, at one point reaching 50 mph. One video posted in February shows him tethered to the back of a truck while being pulled on a skateboard. The video shows several people in the bed of the pick up truck.
Friends said Searle was adventureous, but always safe. They said he always wore his helmet, but he was not wearing it Saturday.
"He wasn't wearing his helmet- he always wore his helmet which surprised me," said good friend Ryan Sanchez. "We just recently went on a snowboarding trip to Steamboat, Colorado. He was always pushing us to the limits- that's what I loved about him."
Searle was the oldest of five children in his religious Mormon family. He was set to start his mission trip after graduation. He played bass in the orchestra at Lake Travis High School, where extra grief counselors are on hand for students.
A spokesperson for the Travis County Sheriff's Office said they are still investigating this case to determine if any charges should be filed.
