Teacher Jamie Biel said the pants were Searle's usual garb for school and described him as the heart and soul of her Advanced Placement environmental science class.

"I was lucky enough to see him for 90 minutes every day," Biel said. "In true Trevor style, his absence has only spawned more love and togetherness among his peers."

Searle was described by his teachers as a polite student who made friends easily and often stopped by teachers' rooms just to say hello.

He was killed Saturday when he fell off his skateboard while clinging to the back of a moving vehicle and hit his head, according to the Travis County sheriff's office, which is investigating the incident. No charges have been filed.

It is against state law for a person on a skateboard to hang on to a vehicle while it is in operation.

Sheriff's spokesman Roger Wade said Searle suffered a head injury.

The incident occurred about 1 p.m. in the 4900 block of Cypress Ranch Boulevard. Searle was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he died about an hour later.

Another passion of Searle's was playing bass in the orchestra, said the high school's orchestra director, Anna Macias.

"He was so musical and loved to play classical, rock and alternative music," Macias said. "He also knew so much about sound engineering and just really had a great knack for it."

Biel said Trevor was such an enthusiast of extreme sports that he brought his rappelling gear on a field trip.

He left the gear in his car respectfully and without argument, Biel said.

"He loved his family and was unabashed about that," Biel said. "He loved life and lived it like each day was his last."
