LAKEWAY (KXAN) - The family of a Lake Travis High School student isn't blaming anyone involved in the skateboarding accident that led to his death on Saturday.

Trevor Searle, 18, died on Cypress Ranch Boulevard.  Travis County investigators said Searle was holding on to a car and riding his skateboard when something caused him to lose his balance and fall to the ground.

In a statement released Tuesday night, the family said "We want to extend our deepest sympathies for those who were with Trevor when his accident occurred and especially to the young lady who was driving. Nobody there had any fault in the accident.   The only fault was Trevor not wearing his helmet."

On Monday, Trevor's father Ryan Searle, accompanied by one of Trevor's friends, skated the section of road where his son passed away.

“It was a blast and so therapeutic," he said. "Trevor had wonderful, mature, good, friends who know how to enjoy life. I hope they will take all possible safety precautions including wearing helmets at all times and continue to do what they love.”

Friends gathered at the site on Monday, placing makeshift memorials to the teen.  They said Searle was adventurous, but always safe. They said he always wore his helmet, but he was not wearing it Saturday.

Searle was the oldest of five children in his religious Mormon family. He was set to start his mission trip after graduation. He played bass in the orchestra at Lake Travis High School, where extra grief counselors are on hand for students.  He planned to attend Utah State University in the Fall.

Trevor helped start a charitable organization with other Students and fellow Eagle Scouts called Families For Families. The Searle family asks that those who would like to do something will go to www.austinfamiliesforfamilies.org and donate there. That money will go to serving other less fortunate members of this community and will help Trevor’s legacy of love and service live on.

Trevor Searle's funeral service will be on Thursday, March 10, at 1:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center at 5201 Convict Hill Rd in Austin.

There will also be a public viewing on Wednesday, March 9, from 6:00p to 8:00p at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on 620, 411 Ranch Road 620 South in Lakeway.
