Along with Stony Point's Kory Leis, this quartet of dual-sport standouts has made its mark on both high school football and soccer fields in Central Texas:

Jared Kutz, sr., Wimberley: A second-team all-district honoree in soccer last season, Kutz kicked seven field goals for the Texans this fall and also scored two special-teams touchdowns.

Ruben Melendez, sr., Anderson: Melendez started kicking around a football only last spring, but the Trojans turned to him when Connor Sheehan went down with an ankle injury in October. The second of Melendez's two career field goals — a 39-yarder against Westwood — gave Anderson its first playoff victory.

Tyler Pate, sr., Belton: An all-district kicker during the fall, Pate also earned first-team all-district recognition after the 2010 soccer season.

Stephen Pyle, sr., Lake Travis: An all-district soccer player, Pyle earned all-state and All-Central Texas honors after kicking 14 field goals this season for Lake Travis' state champion football team.
