The Austin area will continue to see drizzly conditions with the potential for freezing rain and slick roads throughout the afternoon.

Mower County is under a freezing rain advisory through 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service out of La Crosse, Wis.

“We definitely will see some light ice accumulation across the area,” meteorologist Dan Jones said. “Right now the temperatures are around freezing but there are some spots that are 31 or 30 degrees out there, so we’ll definitely be looking at some freezing drizzle as we go into the afternoon.”

Jones said the precipitation will be moving to the east and northeast of the Austin area by this evening, so freezing rain is unlikely after sunset.

However, there is always the chance for already-wet roads to refreeze, so motorists should exercise caution even if it is not raining.

Jones also said some rural roads may be slippery because they are less traveled and are less likely to have been treated with salt.
