Cedar Park knocked off one of the great dynasties in Texas high school football Thursday night.  They beat Lake Travis 35-21 at Cavalier Stadium to claim the 25-4A district title.

Cedar Park jumped out to a commanding lead early by capitalizing on two turnovers.  They led 7-0 after quarterback Brian Hogan hit Michael Waterfield for a touchdown.  Then, they recovered two Lake Travis fumbles deep in Cavalier territory and scored touchdowns on the ensuing drives to make it 21-0.  Hogan ran for both.

The Timberwolves eventually pushed it to 28-0 going into half time, but Lake Travis mounted a come back.  Quarterback Michael Brewer found Tanner Gillette on a 43-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown, then heaved it up for Dannon Cavil on a 69-yard strike to make it 28-21 heading into the 4th quarter.

Cedar Park added cushion late on a rushing touchdown by Zach Horne and held Lake Travis from there.  With the win, Cedar Park is the outright district champion after tying Stony Point for a 5A title last season.  It also ends Lake Travis' run of seven straight titles.  The Cavaliers still enter the 4A division-I playoffs as three-time defending state champs.  They could face Cedar Park again in the fourth round (state quarterfinals).

In 5A, Bowie grabbed a share of their district title with a 30-7 win over Westlake.  Bowie and Westlake will share the crown, both finishing with a 4-1 league record.  Anderson could join them with a win over Austin High Friday night.  Bowie will have the higher seed over Westlake in the 5A division-I playoff bracket.
