The one-sided rivalry continued in this District 25-4A opener as the fourth-ranked Cavaliers (4-1) thumped the Tigers (2-3) for the eighth straight year.
The game was effectively sealed when Lake Travis sophomore receiver Dannon Cavil took a reverse around the left end and coolly sliced through the Dripping Springs defense for a 50-yard touchdown to put the Cavaliers up 21-0 with 7:19 left in the first half.
To that point, Dripping Springs had amassed just three total yards and no first downs.
Lake Travis played its third game in a row with backup Colin Lagasse at quarterback, and the junior gave the Tigers fits. He finished 17 of 28 for 181 yards and two touchdowns, and ran 13 times for 68 yards and a TD.
Lake Travis expects senior quarterback and Texas Tech commit Michael Brewer to start against Vandegrift in two weeks, getting one more week to recover from a shoulder injury with next week’s bye.
“It’s been a blast,” Lagasse said of his opportunity. “The offensive line has really helped me out, everyone’s been great to me and I’m excited for Michael to get back.”
The Cavaliers defense led the way, holding the Tigers to 78 total yards.
Despite the recent run of success by Lake Travis, Dripping Springs still holds a 17-12 advantage in the rivalry.
