A North Austin family is mourning the loss of a loved one who is believed to have been caught up in flood waters from heavy rain last week.
The body of 41-year-old Phuong Tran, a former high-tech worker who was presently working as a nail technician in Killeen, was discovered Tuesday, a week after he went missing.
Around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, crews building a fence on private land in the 2500 block of North Austin Avenue in Georgetown found Tran’s body wrapped in debris.
What is also upsetting the Tran family is the fact that his S.U.V. was impounded seven days ago in Georgetown and no one bothered to tell them, despite the fact that they filed a missing person’s report.
“If we know the car was impounded earlier, then we could locate where he is and we can find him earlier than that. But it's just now that we know that the car is impounded, so it upset the family,” said Hong Ngo, the victim’s sister-in-law.
The Georgetown Police Department does not believe that foul play was involved.
“We sent the body to the Travis County Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death, but the factors contributing it to the flood of Tuesday night, Wednesday morning is definitely a factor,” said Lieutenant Gary Terbush with the Georgetown Police Department.
Phuong Tran had two children, ages 15 and 11. His funeral is tentatively scheduled for Friday pending the results of an autopsy report.
