Austin Fire Department crews skimmed the waters of Lady Bird Lake and
Lake Austin Monday morning, keeping them closed to public use. However,
things are looking better this week at Barton Creek, which was reopened
to the public Monday.
After nearly hitting significant piles of
partially submerged debris throughout the morning, officials have deemed
the waters still "extremely unsafe and dangerous" for personal
watercraft.
Debris for crews evaluating conditions on Monday included things such as 12-foot logs.
Though there was talk it would be open by noon Friday and then by noon Monday, the ban for personal watercraft has been extended even further because the waters are too dangerous to be on.
Officials said the ban for all navigational boating and recreational use is effective until Wednesday at noon.
Austin Fire Department officials said have been out surveying levels since Friday, conducting them once every 24 hours.
Barton
Springs Pool remains closed and Friends of the Barton Springs Pool are
looking for volunteers to help do cleanup work. They will hold a
cleaning party on Wednesday. Click here for information about the two-hour shifts.
