All boating has been banned from most of Austin’s recreational waters until Thursday by fire chief Rhonda Mae Kerr.

Fire officials said because of heavy rains and flooding in the area, the following bodies of water will not allow boating: Lake Austin, Lady Bird Lake, Colorado River below Longhorn Dam, Barton Creek and all creeks within Austin.

Fire officials said it is a violation of a city ordinance to boat in the areas listed. It is also a violation to go through barricades when a street is blocked due to flooding, officials said.

The ban is set to expire at noon Thursday.
