Some Lake Travis businesses are enjoying a record-setting summer season and recovering from last year's drought that dried up sales.
Last Labor Day, businesses were hurting when Lake Travis lake levels were down about 50 feet. This holiday, a full lake meant a rush of customers.
Operations Manager Hawthorne Roth says the money is flowing again at Just for Fun, a boat and jet ski rental business on Lake Travis.
“I just know that this year has been the best that the company has ever had in 23 years,” said Roth.
Last Labor Day, sales were down 40-percent, when the hottest summer in Austin's history combined with low lake levels to drive away potential customers.
“It was dry, so we just did a barbecue at the house and could not enjoy anything because it was terribly hot,” said Tasha Catoire.
This Labor Day was a different story when her family joined friends and rented a houseboat on Lake Travis.
“It was just priceless. Typical Austin weather we wish we could have 365 (days a year) but don’t,” said Catoire.
Boaters noticed a big difference this holiday weekend.
“We stopped a few times and we didn’t have enough rope to drop anchor, it was that deep,” said boater Christy Cramer.
Popular Lake Travis hangout Carlos’n Charlie's is counting on Labor Day sales to offset last year's slow season, and hoping visitors come back even after the holiday is over.
“It’s kind of like the last hurrah, but at the same time, I personally think the weather gets perfect in the fall. So this is the perfect time of year to come out here,” said assistant general manager Michael Campbell.
