The award-winning work of Austin architecture and construction specialists Cottam Hargrave was recently featured on the cover of Tribeza Magazine, a glossy arts and design book that aims to reach the culturally elite.

“We were surprised and delighted to see our good work chosen from all the possible Austin locations to be featured,” said Jay Hargrave, founder of Cottam Hargrave. “Having our work recognized is always a bonus.”

The minimalist Westlake home was completed in 2008 and includes a flat-edge roof connecting pure volumes of glass and stone. Hargrave said that one of the main design challenges for Cottam Hargrave was to deliver a “quiet and refined backdrop” for the client’s contemporary art collection.

Other features that distinguish the residence include entry steps which follow a curved, rusted steel wall and lead to a custom mahogany and steel pivot door. The unique door acts as the main entry to the home, while a wide breezeway connects the front courtyard to a wet-edge pool patio and cabana with rolling hills and Lake Austin beyond.

Because Cottam Hargrave’s architectural approach includes not only design and planning but also construction and execution, the Westlake gem “spent four years in our office,” said Hargrave.
