According to a poll that was released on Monday by Rivals.com, three local teams are among the top teams in the nation.

Stony Point was ranked 38th in Rivals.com’s preseason poll while Lake Travis was slotted 39th. Westlake was ranked 81st.

Among the other news and notes from the poll:

  • Plant High, a two-time defending state champion from Tampa, Fla., is the nation’s top-ranked team.
  • Coming in at No. 3 is Abilene, which is the top-ranked team from Texas. The Eagles won the Class 5A, Division II championship last year.
  • Euless Trinity was ranked sixth. Trinity beat Westlake in last year’s Class 5A, Division I championship game.
  • Cibolo Steele, a team that Lake Travis has beaten in each of the past two playoffs, was ranked 30th. The Woodlands, a team that Stony Point has ousted from the playoffs in each of the past two years, was ranked 34th. Cinco Ranch, which lost 42-27 to Westlake in last year’s state semifinals, was ranked 28th.
  • DeSoto was ranked 66th. The Eagles, who are coached by former LBJ coach Claude Mathis, host Stony Point on Sept. 17.
  • Another Westlake (this one from Westlake Village, Calif.) was ranked 40th.
