For nearly three decades Devil's Cove has been synonymous with partying on Lake Travis.  It's a usually quiet cove tucked away in the northeast section of Lake Travis near Jonestown.

However on certain holidays or weekends you can find hundreds of boats tethered together where partiers climb from boat to boat.

These days some neighbors have grown tired of what they say is a growing problem of noise from some of the boats both day and night.

"In the Cove it just vibrates down there and it's like a parking lot and party all the time," said Jonestown mayor Deane Armstrong.

The city of Jonestown currently has a sound ordinance on waterways bordering the city which discourages anything louder than 85 decibels, a violation which could result in a citation.

On Thursday evening the Jonestown city council voted unanimously to beef up the sound ordinance to include any audible sound 100 feet or better from a boat could result in warning first and then a ticket, similar to what was recently enacted along Lake Austin.

"It's going to be a party out there 24/7 whether those folks dig on it or not so they just need to go ahead and invest in one of those sound systems themselves or move somewhere else because it's going to be rowdy, warned a young man calling himself Kidd Doe.

The Jonestown police chief says his officers will be issuing warnings at first.  Repeat offenders could face stiffer penalties.

The new sound ordinance for Jonestown goes into effect in a couple of weeks.
