Scott Walker was selected as the GOP favorite today by the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

Walker garnered 91.3 percent of the vote, securing the party’s endorsement for governor.

The Milwaukee County Executive who has served eight years is facing a party challenge from conservative businessman and former congressman, Mark Neumann, in September in the race for the state house. Lesser-known conservatives Scott S. Paterick of Wisconsin Rapids, John Schiess of Rice Lake, Travis D. Swenby of Glenwood City and Mark Todd of Appleton are also vying for the seat on the Republican ticket.

“Scott is truly the only candidate with a record of actually getting in the trenches and fighting to keep spending and taxes low,” said Bill Feehan, a small business owner and delegate from La Crosse County.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Republican Party of Wisconsin,” said Walker. “In 2002, when greedy politicians were walking away with millions in taxpayer money, I joined with grassroots activists to take back our government. Since then, we’ve introduced eight consecutive budgets without a tax levy increase from the previous year while cutting our debt by 10 percent and reducing our workforce by 20 percent. Today, our state faces a similar crisis, with taxing and spending spiraling out of control, and activists from across our state are together to take back our government, and get Wisconsin back to work.”

Four Republicans are vying for the lieutenant governor’s office – Dave Ross of Superior, Rebecca Kleefische of Oconomowoc, Brett Davis of Oregon and Ben Collins of Lake Geneva. Voting is currently underway for the party endorsement. It takes 60 percent of the vote for the nomination amidst multiple rounds of voting.
