A controlled burn started by a homeowner in the 1400 block of Hurst Creek Road jumped the street and threatened several homes this afternoon.

Firefighters from Lake Travis Fire Rescue saved six to eight homes that were threatened by the blaze, said Dale Faust, a spokesman for the fire department. The fire burned two acres and caused minor damage to three structures including a shed, Faust said.

Authorities were notified about the fire at 2:50 p.m. and had it under control by about 4:15 p.m., Faust said. The fire was driven by heavy winds, he said.

Five fire vehicles responded to the scene along with a StarFlight helicopter, which dumped buckets of water on the scene, Faust said.

Travis County lifted its burn ban Tuesday.
