All the rain this week is good news for fishermen on Lake Travis. The boat ramps have been closed this year, but as of Friday, one is back open and another one may be reopening soon.

Several fisherman jumped at the chance to hit the water at the Tournament Cove Boat Ramp in Pace Bend Park on Friday. The ramp opened in June, but after just two weeks, low lake levels forced it to close. It reopened Friday.

The Mansfield Dam boat ramp is still closed, but officials said if the water rises two more feet, boats will be let back in.

"It's finally going to happen. It's gonna come up," predicted fisherman Ken Kantor.

In the mean time, Kantor figured out a way to make it work: fishing in his kayak every Friday.

"So far I sold my big boat and bought the little one because there was no sense it storing it anymore," Kantor said.

Typically he's got the fish to himself, but he doesn't expect it to last with the rapidly rising lake levels.

"Yep, about a foot a week now, it's been coming up," Kantor said. "There'll be a lot of boat traffic, but it'll be good to have it up, and it will be a good way to start the summer I think."

Scuba divers also frequent the lake near Mansfield Dam.

"If I come out here after class on the weekdays it's just dead. It's awesome," said diver Erik Nodland.

Nodland said for a scuba diver, low boat traffic is a good thing, but more water would be good, too.

"It's nice to see that going up. Ideally another 30, 40 feet would be great," Nodland said.

According to the LCRA website, Lake Travis is only 40 percent full and Lake Buchanan is 38 percent full.
