The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a new threat level for Texas as Hurricane Lorena approaches the Baja California peninsula, with its remnants potentially impacting the state starting Saturday, September 6, 2025. A weak cold front is also expected to bring cooler temperatures to the San Antonio and Austin areas, offering relief after a summer of triple-digit heat. Highs are forecast to drop to 94°F on Saturday and 90°F on Sunday, with lows reaching a comfortable 69°F.

However, the cooler weather comes with increased rain chances, as Lorena’s moisture could lead to showers and thunderstorms across Texas from Saturday night through Monday. The NWS reports a 50-70% chance of rain, with South-Central Texas cities like San Antonio at a level one out of four risk for excessive rainfall, while Uvalde, Eagle Pass, and Del Rio face a higher level two risk. Residents should stay vigilant for potential flash flooding and monitor weather warnings due to the forecast’s uncertainty.
