Although no people were injured in fire at a Lakeway home Thursday afternoon, several animals appear to have died in the blaze, officials said.

A fire in a garage of a home in the 200 block of Sailor’s Run was reported about 12:30 p.m. and was contained in about 10 minutes, said Eric Carlson, battalion chief with Lake Travis Fire and Rescue.

Nobody was home at the time, he said.

The fire engulfed the garage, where several animals were kept in kennels, said Robert Abbott, assistant fire chief of Lake Travis Fire and Rescue. Crews were able to rescue a dog, a parakeet and several smaller animals, Abbott said, but other animals appear to have perished. He did not know what kind of animals died.

Most of the damage was contained to the garage, Abbott said, and the home is not considered a loss.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the blaze, he said.
