Ranger V-Ball In Region QtrsThe Smithson Valley Ranger Volleyball team takes the court tonight in the 4A Region IV Quarterfinals against the Lake Travis Cavaliers in San Marcos. The Rangers are the only local volleyball team still in the playoffs, and Smithson Valley is playing with quite a bit of bravado these days; the Rangers went unbeaten in district play en route to the 27-4A title and have won each of their first two playoff matches by virtue of a sweep. First serve for tonight’s match is at 7:30 from Rattler Gym at San Marcos High School; should the Rangers win they will advance to the Region Semifinals and face either Corpus Christi Calallen or San Antonio Edison later this week. Girls BB Opens TonightTonight marks the start of the girls high school basketball season; the Canyon Cougarettes open the season at home against San Marcos at 7:00; the New Braunfels Unicorns, who most recently made a run deep into the playoffs this past season will face Clemens at 7:00 from Unicorn Gym; Canyon Lake hosts Johnson City at 6:30 and Smithson Valley tips off the season against Del Rio at 6:30 from Ranger Gym. The Boys Basketball season opens next week. Football Playoff ScheduleIn other high school notes, this week’s high school football playoff on-air schedule is set, and with the area having four playoff teams for the first time ever, we’ll have all four games on the air. This Thursday, Canyon plays Boerne Champion at Ranger Stadium and we’ll have the broadcast right here on KGNB, on KNBT we’ll have the call of Smithson Valley’s 1st round game against Uvalde from Farris Stadium in San Antonio. Both those games start at 7:00. Two more games hit the airwaves on Friday, New Braunfels hosts MacArthur at Unicorn Stadium, and Canyon Lake travels to Marble Falls to take on Burnet. Those two kick-off at 7:30; pre-game coverage for all four games starts a half hour prior to the start of the game. Each broadcast can also be heard live online at kgnb.am and knbt.fm.
