The Cavaliers (8-1, 5-0 District 25-4A) didn’t look like the Cavaliers early, but 17 points to open the second half mashed the Mustangs (4-5, 2-3).

Marble Falls held third-ranked Lake Travis to just 14 points in the first half — its lowest total in district play this year.

But Lake Travis running back Turney Maurer ran for a 15-yard score four plays into the second half. Marble Falls muffed the ensuing kickoff, and Lake Travis recovered and scored on the very next play when Michael Brewer hit Griffin Gilbert on a 17-yard fade. Lake Travis followed that with an onside kick that the Cavaliers recovered, leading to a 26-yard Stephen Pyle field goal.

Cameron Wrinkle and Colin Lagasse paced the attack, combining for 241 yards and three touchdowns.

“Coach (Hank Carter) told us we needed to step it up after the first half,” Wrinkle said. “We needed to make our blocks, and we needed to run harder.”

Brewer was 17 of 23 with 243 yards and two touchdowns, while Gilbert led the Lake Travis receiving corps with five catches for 99 yards and a score.

David Morgan was the highlight for Marble Falls, catching five passes for 52 yards.

Now, Lake Travis turns its attention to sixth-ranked Cedar Park (9-0, 5-0) for Thursday’s district title showdown.

“I’m getting goose bumps already thinking about it,” Lake Travis linebacker Austin Williams said.
