KXAN’s Chief Meteorologist Jim Spencer says an upper level storm system and strong cold front are headed our way bringing a 70 % chance of rain to the area.

Spencer said the expected rain should begin sometime Friday night through at least midday Saturday.

“Isolated thunderstorms are also possible across eastern parts of our area. Rainfall amounts will generally average one quarter to one half inch. Isolated amounts up to one inch are possible across the east. Breezy to windy…drier and colder conditions will develop in the wake of the frontal passage,” Spencer said.

The rainy weather will be followed by gusty winds from the north and colder weather for the remainder of the holiday weekend.

“Clear skies and decreasing winds behind the cold front will cause temperatures to drop rapidly Saturday evening leading to lows around 30 to the lower 30s in the Hill Country and mid to upper 30s across South Central Texas,” said Spencer.
