ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

Has it only been seven weeks? It feels like Texas’ loss to Alabama was a long, long time ago.

Football is back this week, though.

On Wednesday, the annual NFL scouting combine begins in Indianapolis. Colt McCoy, Jordan Shipley, Adam Ulatoski, Sergio Kindle, Lamarr Houston, Roddrick Muckelroy and Earl Thomas all will be there to be poked and prodded and work out for scouts.

You’ll be able to watch it all on the NFL Network, if you’ve got it.

Our own Suzanne Halliburton will be covering the combine as well. She’ll hold a live chat to talk about those players’ draft status and combine prospects on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Mack Brown will hold a press conference to talk about the start of Texas’ spring football workouts.

On Friday, the Horns take the field for practice.

Fans will get three chances to see Texas work out this spring: two open workouts (in pads) at 4 p.m. March 2 and March 8, and the annual orange-white scrimmage at DKR on Easter Sunday.

And on Saturday, the Horns bring in their second haul of top recruits, for another Junior Day. The first Junior Day two weekends ago netted 13 commitments.

Speaking of Junior Day, Oklahoma held its first one this past weekend and it resulted in five verbal commitments to the Sooners, including two from the Longhorns’ own backyard.

Stony Point defenders Jordan Wade and P.L. Lindley both pledged to OU over the weekend, joining fellow Texans Chris Barnett of Euless Trinity, Arlington wide receiver Kameel Jackson and Southmoore (Okla.) quarterback Kendal Thompson.

Wade, a defensive tackle, picked OU over LSU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Lindley, a linebacker, had offers from Houston, SMU and Rice.

Another big batch of Horns recruits will be in Austin this weekend. That may or may not include Houston Clear Springs linebacker Trevon Randle, who committed to LSU over the weekend.

We’ll break down this weekend’s recruits as the week goes on.

As for the 13 players who already have committed, one was Lake Travis offensive lineman Taylor Doyle. Here’s a Lake Travis View story on the big lineman’s pledge to Texas.
