Lake Travis to play Cedar Park for regional championship

Last December, the Cedar Park and Lake Travis football teams met at Texas Memorial Stadium with a trip to the state semifinals on the line. On Saturday in San Antonio, the schools’ volleyball teams will battle for the same prize.

Cedar Park and Lake Travis both won their regional semifinal matches on Friday to set up a regional championship showdown between the District 25-4A rivals. The Lady Timberwolves and Lady Cavaliers will play at noon on Saturday at the Paul Taylor Field House in San Antonio.

Lake Travis, which is looking for its second straight Class 4A championship, is 47-0 this season and the Lady Cavaliers have yet to lose a set. Cedar Park is 35-16.

Lake Travis has beaten Cedar Park in each of their three meetings this season.

The winner of Saturday’s match will advance to next week’s state volleyball tournament in San Marcos. Also trying to earn a trip to San Marcos on Saturday will be Westlake.

The Lady Chaparrals swept Richardson Lake Highlands on Friday in a Class 5A regional semifinal match that was played at Sam Houston State University. At noon on Saturday, the Lady Chaparrals (43-5) will play for the Class 5A, Region II championship agaisnt a McKinney Boyd team that beat Georgetown on Friday.
