Some of the state’s top offensive and defensive linemen will be at Westlake on Saturday for the school’s first-ever Chap Lineman Challenge.

Local linemen from Westlake, Cedar Park, Stony Point, Lake Travis, Connally, Reagan and Lehman are expected to attend an event that will also welcome players from Odessa Permian, Port Neches Grove and Abilene.

Westlake estimated that it has already registered over 85 linemen for the event.

“The main reason to do this is just to raise the awareness of the importance of those two spots on the football team,” Westlake offensive line coach Ted Willmann said. “We’ve got to have those guys and they’re very important to the success of the football team but very rarely do they have the opportunity to compete against their peers.”

Willmann said that the linemen will compete in teams and the competition will feature events like the bench press, a tug-of-war contest and a timed obstacle course. The winning team will receive a trophy.

Walk-up registration for the $20 event will be allowed on Saturday. For more information of the event, Willmann can be reached at twillmann@eanesisd.net.
