Topping the American-Statesman’s preseason power poll is Lake Travis.

Lake Travis went 16-0 last season and won its third straight state championship. The Cavaliers have won 46 straight games and will return quarterback Michael Brewer, a Texas Tech pledge, and Tulsa-bound wide receiver Conner Floyd. Taylor Doyle, who has committed to Texas, anchors Lake Travis’ offensive line while linebacker Austin Williams will lead an underrated defense.

The Cavaliers will need to find a replacement for Andy Erickson, who won All-Central Texas Player of the Year honors last year after compiling 2,389 yards of offense and 37 touchdowns. Lake Travis also has a new coach in Hank Carter, who was promoted in January from his defensive coordinator position after Chad Morris took a job at the University of Tulsa.

Lake Travis opens its season against Westlake in a game that will be played on Aug. 28 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Westlake’s 28-21 win over Lake Travis on Sept. 7, 2007 was the Cavaliers’ last defeat.
