Triple-digit forecasts are back in Central Texas — did you miss it? — with no chance of rain in store for the next week.

The mercury topped 100 for the first time in several areas yesterday, with 102 reported at Camp Mabry and 100 reported at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

We’ll more of the same for at least the next week, said David Schumacher, a forecaster with the service.

“We’re actually in the the hottest part of the year, the last wek of July and the first few weeks of August,” Schumacher said. “That’s sort of the way it is around here, we’re really somewhat lucky we just hit 100.”

He said there’s a slim chance — 10 to 20 percent — we’ll see rain by the weekend, and forecasters are keeping an eye on a tropical system about 1,000 miles south-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands that could enter the gulf next week.
