The Lake Travis High School drill and dance team has received an invitation to take part in the annual
Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena , "an opportunity of a lifetime" for the teens.
It is the first time in the history of one of the world's most popular parades that any high school drill and dance team will perform an opening number, according to Cavalettes' senior captain Stacey Arnold.
The Cavalettes will join two other Texas drill and dance teams invited to perform a routine that conveys the parade's theme, "Just Imagine...". The parade airs the morning of Jan. 2, and is expected to draw about 47 million viewers in the U.S. and 28 million viewers internationally.
The other teams are Hebron High School (Lewisville Independent School District) and Central High School (Keller I.S.D.). The band from Lubbock High School is the only Texas high school band that will perform in the parade.
“The team is honored to be selected to open the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade,” said Abigail Payne, Cavalette director. “We look forward to representing LTISD and the entire LT community at the national level. It promises to be an incredible experience for our students.”
The Cavalettes will head to Los Angeles on Dec. 30, where they will have the opportunity to visit Universal Studios and the historic Kodak Theater.
Payne asked that anyone who would like to assist the team with travel arrangements contact her at 512-533-6144 or visit the
Cavalettes' website for information.
