Vandegrift may be new to varsity football competition, but that doesn't mean the Vipers aren't ambitious.

The team has given itself the goal of posting a winning record in its first season in District 25-4A.

The Vipers played a JV schedule last season and went 7-2. Now they move up to varsity
competition without any seniors in a challenging district that includes Lake Travis and Cedar Park.

Head coach Drew Sanders spent three seasons at Travis High before moving to Vandegrift about two years ago. He says this team has talented running backs and is very intelligent.

The first varsity game in program history is Friday night against Lanier.
