Snead, who transferred away, talks Texas

Mississippi quarterback Jevan Snead decommitted from Florida because of Tim Tebow, an eventual Heisman winner. Then he transferred from Texas because of Colt McCoy, who became the winningest quarterback in college football history.

Coincidentally, he’s competing with both quarterbacks for draft attention at the NFL combine.


Snead said he doesn’t regret leaving the Longhorns after his freshman year in 2006.


“It definitely was a tough decision,” Snead said Friday. “Basically came down to Texas having two great quarterbacks. Colt did a tremendous job and never slipped at all.


“I could have stayed there and waited to see if he slipped up. And I would’ve missed my chance.”


Snead, who starred at Stephenville High School, received his degree from Mississippi in December. He declared for the NFL with a season of eligibility remaining.


Snead said he made the decision to leave early after consulting his family and talking to Chad Morris, then the Lake Travis High School coach. Morris coached Snead at Stephenville.
