Body recovered from Lake Travis

Update 2:00 PM: Travis County Sheriff’s officials have identified the deceased man as 31-year-old Stuart Kerley of Spicewood.

According to witnesses Kerley was diving off the boom of a crane, which is about 50 feet from the top of the crane to the water. He went into the water, appeared to take a breath, went under and then did not resurface.

Kerley was taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office where he will be examined to determine the cause of death.

UPDATE 11:15 AM: A body was recovered from the lake around 9:30 a.m., Wade said. The body was found in 60-foot-deep water, he said. No other details were available.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: STAR Flight rescue swimmers searched tonight for a swimmer who went into Lake Travis near Spicewood but never came up, according to Travis County sheriff’s spokesman Roger Wade.

The call about the incident near the 27000 block of Catamaran Drive in Travis County came in about 8:20 p.m., Wade said. The swimmer had been in the water about 20 minutes, he said.

Aside from sheriff’s officials and STAR Flight, the Lower Colorado River Authority, Austin Police Department and other agencies responded to the scene.
