Lampasas' Vann Millican stood out.
The Badgers' senior utility
player was one of two players on the 21-person District 25-4A
all-district first team who didn't play for regional finalist Lake
Travis, regional semifinalist Pflugerville Hendrickson or regional
quarterfinalist Hutto.
District 25-4A was that competitive, but
only at the top.
The Badgers went winless in district play, yet
Millican still stood out.
"He did well. He did pretty good in
district and he played quite a few positions for us and did a great
job," Badgers coach Brian McBeth said of Millican. "It's good for the
program. It shows that we've got a little talent on there."
Killeen
High, which only had district wins over Lampasas, had four
second-teamers, three of which return next season for the Roos, who move
into a new district.
Killeen pitcher Anthony Jenkins was the
Roos' only senior to make the second-team list. Center fielder Ryan
Jones and utility player Josh Yonker were both juniors and pitcher
Evelio Varela was a sophomore. Lampasas senior center fielder Caleb Lowe
also made the second team.
"They played hard and left it all out
on the field ... I think Anthony, if he really pursued it, could play
in college," said Killeen coach Mark Carranza.
Jenkins actually
is — tight end on Angelo State's football team.
"Anthony, you
don't replace him." Carranza said, "You just hope another one would move
in. Anthony moved in his junior year ... he was just a gift because he
could throw really well and he only got better as time went on."
Lake
Travis had four first-team selections, including co-MVP Brad Kuntz.
Kuntz shared the district's top honor with Trevor Seidenberger from
Hendrickson, which also had the district newcomer and seven total
first-team sections.
Hendrickson sophomore Cody Lunsford was
newcomer of the year for the undefeated District 25-4A champions, and
Hutto, which finished third in the district, had five first-team
selections.
Bi-district finalist Marble Falls had the only other
player — sophomore catcher Derek Steffek — not from Hendrickson, Lake
Travis or Hutto to make the first team.
