As experts with the Lower Colorado River Authority continue to monitor the upcoming weather and the water levels Wednesday morning after overnight downpours, they said there is a possibility that they will have to open floodgates at the Mansfield Dam. If floodgate operations do take place, it will be the first time in almost a decade.

While there was no severe weather or damage, some areas in Central Texas did see as much as 3 inches of rain.

Lake Travis is already 100 percent full. And with additional rain in the forecast for the days ahead, experts said flash flooding and river flooding are big concerns.

John Hoffman with the LCRA said the wet forecast combined with Central Texas' hilly terrain is really what concerns them.

"You have an environment where it doesn't take that much rain to yield a lot of rainfall runoff that moves very fast," Hoffman said.

Experts also said the location and amount of rainfall will be the biggest factor in determining whether to initiate floodgate operations.

The last time Mansfield Dam flooded was back in June of 2007. A number of people came out to see the rare sight of water rushing into Lake Austin that year.
