Michael Brewer threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 11 Lake Travis to a 24-17 win over Longview in the Class 4A Division I state championship on Saturday night.

The win gave the Cavaliers (16-0) their third straight state title. Lake Travis defeated Highland Park for its first championship in 2007 and beat Longview 48-23 last year.

The Cavaliers also extended their consecutive win streak to 46 games.

Lake Travis struck quickly, scoring on its second play of the game when Brewer connected with a wide open Andy Erickson for a 57-yard touchdown pass.

Longview (14-2) countered with a 16-play drive, culminating in a 31-yard field goal from Kyle Jenkins. Jenkins' kick cut the deficit to 7-3 with 1:47 left in the first quarter.

But the Cavaliers stretched their lead to 14-3 on an eight-play, 45-yard scoring march. Brewer, who completed 12 of 24 pass attempts with two interceptions, threw his second touchdown pass, a 10-yarder to Connor Floyd, less than a minute into the second quarter.

Early in the third quarter, Lake Travis went ahead 17-3 on Kramer Fyfe's 26-yard field. But the Lobos cut the margin to a touchdown on their next possession.

Aaron Johnson, who finished the game with 165 yards on 21 carries, scampered 44 yards to the Lake Travis 5. Following a face mask penalty, Da'Cedric Hunt's 2-yard scoring plunge made the score 17-10.

Longview forced a Cavalier punt, but the Lake Travis defense generated a turnover that provided a touchdown. Trevor Gillette sacked Johnson for a 10-yard loss at the Lobo 23 and forced the quarterback to fumble. Austin William recovered the loose football for the Cavaliers and a personal foul penalty gave Lake Travis the ball at the Longview 9.

Erickson carried twice, first for seven yards, and then dove into the end zone from the 2, putting the Cavaliers in front 24-10 late in the third quarter.

Longview mounted a 90-yard touchdown drive late in the game. On fourth-and-goal, Johnson hit Brandon Olson for a 10-yard scoring pass with only 2½ minutes left to play.

The Lobos attempted an onside kick, but Jenkins' boot bounced over the sideline. The Cavaliers took over at their 49 and ran out the clock.
