While the Mustang offense found new ways to click behind the continued maturation of sophomore Aidin Parnell, the Lake Travis Cavaliers showed why they were the No. 1 team in the state, rolling up 57 points and scoring three non-offensive touchdowns in a 57-0 romp on at CAvailer stadium in Austin.

After a botched early punt, the Marble Falls defense came up with a big stop when Clint Powell knocked down a Baker Mayfield pass on fourth down.

The Lake Travis special teams got the Cavs on the board on the next series, wrangling punter Zed Woerner down in the end zone for a safety. On the ensuing drive, the Cavs went up 9-0 on a Mayfield touchdown pass and never looked back.

Even with leads of 36-0 and 43-0, the Cavs didn’t let up, attempting two onside kicks in the second and third quarter, meanwhile the ‘Stangs crossed midfield twice before penalties killed promising drives.

"Our kids did some good things out there against a really good football team,” coach Cord Woerner said. "Aidin is a good athlete, and he took a few shots and got back up. I think he grew up a lot tonight.”

The Mustangs’ playoff hopes are on life support, but a possibility exists for a three-way tie if they can beat Vandegrift Friday night, though the margin would have to be significant with point differential not going in the ‘Stangs’ favor due to lopsided losses. Most importantly, Woerner would like to see the team go out with a solid effort in their final home game, but knows health will continue to be an issue.

"We have to get some bodies out there,” Woerner said. "That’s the bottom line.”
