The Travis County Sheriff’s Office said today that the man who drowned at Lake Travis Saturday was 34-year-old Edwin Eduardo Morales of Houston.

Witnesses told officials that Morales was attempting to swim across a cove at Bob Wentz Park with several friends when he went under.

Sheriff’s deputies, Travis County Park Rangers, Austin/Travis County EMS and STAR Flight personnel were dispatched at 2:07 p.m., officials said. Rescue swimmers attempted to locate the man but were unsuccessful.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered Morales’ body at 7:09 p.m. in about six feet of water, 30 yards from the shore.

The preliminary finding of the sheriff’s office investigation indicates accidental death due to drowning, officials said. Toxicology test results must be completed before the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office releases an official cause of death.
