Lake Travis will enter the 2011 football season as the third-ranked team in Class 4A. The two teams ranked higher than the Cavaliers are no strangers.

Lake Travis was ranked third in the Associated Press’ first Class 4A football poll of the season. Lake Travis received no first-place votes and 191 points in the poll, which tallied the votes of 25 contributors from across the state.

Aledo received 24 of the 25 first-place votes and it climbed to the top of the poll with 249 points while Denton Ryan received the other first-place vote and 195 points. Aledo, which is Class 4A, Division II’s two-time defending champion, beat Lake Travis last season and the two teams will meet again on Sept. 9. Lake Travis beat Denton Ryan 27-7 last December to secure its fourth-straight state championship.

Cedar Park was ranked fourth in the Class 4A poll. The Timberwolves will return 10 starters this season from a team that split its two games with Lake Travis last season and won the District 25-4A championship.

Stony Point was ranked ninth in the inaugural Class 5A poll while Wimberley placed third in the Associated Press’ Class 3A poll. Cameron Yoe and Lexington will respectively open the season as Class 2A’s ninth and 10th ranked teams.
