The four Highland Lakes that were closed to recreational boating over the past few days will be back open just in time for the hot weekend.

The Lower Colorado River Authority says Lake Travis, Lake Marble Falls, Inks Lake and Lake LBJ will reopen at noon on Friday, June 10 after being closed on June 6.

Since no significant rain has fallen this week, Lake Travis is continuing to fall. On Monday evening Lake Travis was sitting at 692.69 feet msl; as of 3 p.m. June 9, the lake is at 691.54 feet msl. Flows throughout the Highland Lakes continue to be strong, and anyone boating or swimming on the lakes should use caution and be on the lookout for debris and submerged objects.

At this time, no floodgates are open at Buchanan but floodgate operations can be expected to continue at Mansfield Dam through the weekend.

If you plan on taking a dip in the lakes this weekend, the LCRA warns that bacteria levels in the lakes are higher than normal after recent flooding rains.
