Following the recent freezing weather, the Lower Colorado River Authority is postponing the refill of Lake Austin by two days to Feb. 10. The delay gives residents with homes or property near the water a chance to complete repairs to docks or other work while the water level is low from a 12-foot drawdown Jan. 3. The low water level also allows the cold weather to kill fast-growing, nusiance plants. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas ordered the LCRA to begin producing emergency hydroelectric energy Feb. 3 to ease the strain on the Texas power grid. The action caused the lake to rise and fall by 3 feet. Residents should stay aware of the water levels in case the generators are needed for energy once again, according to a press release.
