Local athletes attempt to get on the podium at state swim meet

The annual state swim meet concluded today at the University of Texas’ Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center. Here are the local medalists:

    * In addition to her silver medal in the 200-yard medley relay, Vista Ridge’s Annika Jonsson won the Class 4A 200-yard individual medley and Class 4A 500-yard freestyle events.

    * LBJ’s Kara McCormack successfully defended her title in the Class 4A one-meter diving competition. Lake Travis’ Alexandra Bettridge finished second in the event.

    * Lake Travis’ Reid Elliott won the Class 4A 100-yard backstroke event. He also finished second in the Class 4A 100-yard butterfly.

    * Bowie’s Erin Flanigan won silver in the Class 5A 500-yard freestyle and bronze in the Class 5A 200-yard freestyle.

    * Austin High’s Ben Anderson won silver in the Class 5A 50-yard freestyle.

    * Anderson’s Michael Beran won bronze in the Class 5A one-meter diving competition.

    * Vista Ridge finished second in the Class 4A 200-yard medley relay. The Lady Rangers who swam on this relay team were Annika Jonsson, Christina Jonsson, Taylor Russell and Katherine Worthington.

    * Vista Ridge won bronze in the Class 4A 200-yard medley relay. The Rangers who swam on this relay team were Ryan Green, Weston Turner, Josh Anderson and Daeton Davenport. Anderson and Davenport also finished second and third in the Class 4A 500-yard freestyle event.

    * LBJ’s McCrae Kempf picked up a silver medal in the Class 4A 100-yard freestyle and he won bronze in the Class 4A 50-yard freestyle.

    * Rouse’s Mackenzie Alspaugh finished third in the Class 4A 100-yard butterfly.

    * Dripping Springs’ Timothy Wylie finished third in the Class 4A 100-yard backstroke and he won a bronze medal in the Class 4A 100-yard freestyle.

    * Dripping Springs’ Jessica Shepard finished third in the Class 4A 100-yard backstroke.

    * Vandegrift’s Sammi Bassman finished second in the Class 4A 100-yard breaststroke.
