Investigators say an electrical malfunction caused a house fire in the Lake Travis area.

It happened about 2 a.m. Monday in the 11800 block of Ranchview Ct. in the Steiner Ranch area.

Lake Travis Fire and Rescue crews battled the fire for more than an hour, as it spread from the garage to the attic. Firefighters said such fires can be a challenge to put out.

"These are larger homes in this area. They have very complex attic structures. A lot of times, fire is hidden in those attic spaces that are not easily detected," Lake Travis Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Robert Abbot said. "And attic fires spread very, very quickly."

Three family members inside the home managed to get out safely. No one was hurt.
