Pedernales Electric is once again offering scholarships to high school seniors in its service area. PEC will provide $1,000 scholarships to 50 deserving seniors in the spring of 2011. The scholarships can be used to pay expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, technical school or trade school. Each scholarship recipient must be a senior in high school, and his or her parents or legal guardians must be PEC members.

In the spring of 2010, Kaila Svetlik, a Lake Travis High School senior, received a PEC scholarship.

“The scholarship I received has helped me pay for the first semester of my classes and some of my books. I am very grateful to have been awarded this scholarship from PEC,” said Svetlik, who is now a student at Texas A&M University.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on application responses, academic performance, standardized test results and financial need, as well as motivation and personal character. The PEC Scholarship Committee selects the judges who determine recipients.

PEC Assistant General Manager Jeanell Davis said, “Supporting high school seniors at this critical turning point in their lives is an important part of our mission to give back. The students who receive these scholarships are extraordinary, both academically and in character, and we are proud to help them achieve their education goals.”

PEC has supported local students and higher education through its scholarship program for more than a decade. Scholarship recipients will be announced later this spring.

Applications are available online at www.pec.coop and from area high school counselors and PEC offices. Applications must be received by e-mail, postmarked or turned in to any PEC office by Tuesday, March 1, 2011.
