Lakeway wants to Rebrand Itself

The City of Lakeway says it's having an identity crisis. Now, it wants to spend thousands of dollars on a marketing plan.

Lakeway is known for its resort overlooking Lake Travis, its golf courses and tennis. But, the mayor says the city is not doing enough to compete for regional tourism dollars. Lakeway doesn't have a brand. What is Lakeway? How do you identify it? How would somebody in Houston or Dallas identify it?

So the mayor and the city council want to spend $70,000 with a Nashville company called North Star Destination Strategies to rebrand Lakeway. The mayor says the money will not come from taxpayers. The $70,000 will come out of Lakeway's hotel occupancy tax.

The Lakeway City Council will vote to spend the money in August. Then North Star will have six months to prove itself.
