According to Rivals.com, Lake Travis junior Griffin Gilbert has given a verbal commitment to play football at Texas Christian University. A 6-foot-5-inch wide receiver, Gilbert will join a TCU team that is moving to the Big East Conference in 2012.

Gilbert is the brother of Texas starting quarterback Garrett Gilbert. Hookem.com, the Internet partner of the American-Statesman, has reported that the younger Gilbert was offered the opportunity to greyshirt with the Longhorns.

In two seasons as a starter with the Cavaliers, Gilbert has collected 117 receptions, 1,716 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. A member of Lake Travis’ 2008 title team, Gilbert will try to help the Cavaliers win a fifth straight state championship this upcoming fall.

Oh no, not another “grayshirt” scholarship offer missed opportunity by Texas. Either offer the kid a full ride and commit to him or don’t offer at all. Didn’t we learn anything from the grayshirt offers to Emory Blake and Michael Brewer? Either crap or get off the pot. It’s like being “kind of” pregnant. Thought we got rid of this mentality. Yes, Griffin is Garrett’s “little” brother, but for a team lacking in TE prospects, GG-part II, has the size and hands to be the next TE mismatch. Doubt he’ll continue to play WR in college, but can see him as a Jason Witten type one day. Good luck younger GG at TCU, you will do great.
