Two more Central Texas athletes have recently given a verbal commitment to the Rice football program. According to their respective high school coaches, Lake Travis linebacker Austin Williams and St. Michael’s offensive lineman Andrew Reue will both sign with the Owls next week.

Williams and Reue will join Westwood wide receiver Grant Peterson and Cedar Park offensive lineman Matt Wofford in Rice’s Class of 2011. According to Rivals.com, Rice has secured commitments from 18 high school athletes.

This season, Reue helped lead St. Michael’s to a 11-2 record and an appearance in the semifinals of the TAPPS Division I playoffs. An All-Central Texas third-team selection on the offensive line, Reue also earned all-state first team honors on both sides of the football.

Williams becomes the third Lake Travis athlete in the last two years to commit to the Owls as wide receiver Andy Erickson and tight end Trevor Gillette both saw playing time this fall as true freshmen. An All-Central Texas linebacker, Williams recorded 174 tackles this year as Lake Travis won its fourth straight state championship.

Williams, however, will probably not appear in an Owl uniform until 2013. Lake Travis coach Hank Carter confirmed on Monday that Williams plans on serving a two-year Mormon mission before he attends Rice.
